THE WORTH OF A SOUL
THE WORTH OF
A SOUL
What is a Soul?
The D&C 88:15 defines Soul, as ‘the spirit and
the body’. And I am going to talk about my Soul because our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ taught in Matthew 7:3-5 thus:
‘And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s
eye, but considerate not the beam that is thine own eye?
‘Or how
wilt thou say to thy brother, let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and
behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
‘Thou
hypocrites, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and the shalt thou
see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s own eye’.
The worth of my Soul before Heavenly Father is
priceless as the maker, and what I make of it makes it more worthy to him.
We are all Souls created by a Loving God for
purposes, we are different from Satan or the devil and his followers because
they are only spirits without body.
The worth of my Soul means that it is important
and valuable to the Lord, and He would not want it to be ‘lost’ or ‘wasted’.
If we remember the three parables of the Lord as
recorded in Luke 15 [Read], it includes the Parables of the lost sheep, of the
piece of silver, and the prodigal son. Are the characters in these parables
seek and searched for what is valuable to them because of their worth and love
for what they value. We know that Jesus Christ Loves us and doesn’t want us to
be lost because we are valuable to Him. How do we sustain this love for God and
ourselves? I will suggest as answer the following:
1. Continuous repentance
2. Receive the Saving
Ordinances
3. Make Covenants with the
Lord
The lord and His prophets’ emphasis on all the
above action to know and appreciate God for the worth of our Souls. See 1 Nephi
19:7. President Russell M. Nelson, the Prophet in his first address to the
Saints said:
‘chose to broadcast from the temple to emphasize
their wish for members to be ‘endowed with power in a house of the Lord, sealed
as families-faithful to covenants made in a temple’ which are key to
strengthening your life, your marriage and family, and your ability to resist
the attacks of the adversary’.
This I testify will improve our Souls worth before
the Lord and before man. I know that the worth of a Soul to the Lord is
priceless in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
