PRESIDENT JONATHAN AND THE MANDELA VIRTUE
PRESIDENT JONATHAN AND THE MANDILA VIRTUE
Now, the Christmas Day speech of President Jonathan inside the Church is creating ripples warranting a refutal by the Presidency on the aspect on terrorism. This would not have being necessary if the President allowed the Mandela Virtue to garnish his speech.
Among the Mandela virtue is to avoid speaking or responding with anger. And we all know that anger destroys good intention.
Another of the Mandela virtue is forgiveness, this was also lacking in the aforesaid speech. All these were provoked by the Obasanjo letter, the desire to revenge, retaliate or make a point. And I do not think that approach is solving any concern.
I maintain the view that if the Presidency view the Obasanjo letter as wrong or unbecoming of the Elder Statesman, the response of the President did not help matter, and it is true that 'two wrongs does not make a right' that is why the blame game is shifting to the media by the Presidency.
The country cannot continue like this and then succeed in making the tremendous head way that we all need.
I still call on the managers of the President to support him and not to create enemies where there are none, like Mr. President rightly said in the Church, this country belongs to all of us.
If the Presidency is acting in anger as they are doing in this letter saga, it is a defeat of the spirit of the season, and the office of the President will soon be seen as child play, giving credence to the contents of the several open letters written across our country, being people's reaction to the attitude of the President that his aides are not patriotic in their advice and support.
I know that what is good is good and what is bad is bad no matter who does it, no matter where the fellow comes from and no matter the position or qualification of the fellow.
The desire to score a political point is putting the partisan politicians at cross road, and throwing hardship on the populace including the partisan supporters of these political gladiators.
There is a wise saying to the effect that " if Mr. A say you have hot temper, Mr. B says the same thing and your relations says the same thing, check yourself, you truly have hot temper". Because if the press have cried for long of corruption, the CBN the same thing, the Speaker of the House of Representative says the same thing and a past President is crying loud about the same thing who are the relations of the Presidency, then corruption is flourishing unchecked and that amounts to the destruction of the country.
These privileged leaders should realize their accountability to the people in a democracy and not continue to make Nigeria a laughing stoke among the comity of Nations after 100 years of existence.
